On 8 May 2024, NetRom Software hosted a unique networking event at Racesquare Utrecht. During this exclusive gathering for clients and business partners, two worlds came together: artificial intelligence and motorsport. Alongside AI expert Harry Heijes and F2 driver Richard Verschoor, around fifteen participants experienced an afternoon where they could put both their technical and racing skills to the test. The goal of the event? To let participants experience firsthand, through a practical approach, that the true value of AI lies in the collaboration between human expertise and technology, and to demonstrate how this works in practice.
From AI theory to practical application
The afternoon kicked off with an engaging presentation by thought leader Harry Heijes on the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence. As an authority in this domain, he provided a clear overview of AI’s impact on society and business processes and how directly applicable it already is.
Following this theoretical introduction, participants moved on to the hands-on AI workshop. Under Heijes’ guidance, they built an application within an hour that enabled them to search through ten years of F2 race data. Using AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, they generated Python code to make data processing and analysis possible. This gave participants practical experience with the power of these emerging AI technologies.

From computer screen to race track
The second part of the afternoon focused on sim racing – a virtual racing experience that remarkably closely simulates the reality of racing on an actual circuit. The event was made unique by the presence of F2 driver Richard Verschoor. He is part of the MP Motorsport team, currently leading the championship, and a partner of NetRom Software. Verschoor shared valuable insights and tips with the participants, who then competed against each other on the virtual track, aiming to finish as close to Richard as possible.
Knowledge sharing and networking at the core
AI is a key topic that impacts every industry. We are deeply engaged with these developments, which is why we value direct contact with AI thought leaders, our target audience, and the broader market. Knowledge sharing is a two-way street: we learn about market trends and challenges, and we also share how our developers leverage AI to build higher-quality solutions within short timeframes.
By sharing our insights and allowing participants to experience firsthand what AI can achieve, we aim not only to inspire but also to bridge the gap between technological innovation and practical applications.
Want to join a NetRom event?
Due to the great success of the first event, we are organizing a follow-up edition of the AI workshop and sim racing experience on 12 September 2025. Just like last time, under the guidance of AI expert Harry Heijes, you will build a practical AI mini-application in one hour. After that, you’ll compete on the virtual circuit against F2 driver Richard Verschoor.
